FARMINGTON, Maine - September 29, 2012 - Freshman
Lukas Welch (Northfield, N.H.) scored the game's lone goal 2:49 into the second overtime to lift Colby-Sawyer to a 1-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win at the University of Maine-Farmington on Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers improve to 3-5-1 overall and 2-0 in NAC play, while the Beavers fall to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
In an evenly played game throughout, Colby-Sawyer was finally able to break through in the second extra session. Sophomore
Max Yee (Hooksett, N.H.) sent a shot in from a bad angle on the near side. With the ball appearing to be wide, Welch sailed in by the far post and finished the play for the victory.
UMaine-Farmington outshot Colby-Sawyer by a 15-14 margin, and the Beavers had a narrow 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Nick Austin (Westerfly, R.I.) charted six saves in the shutout victory for Colby-Sawyer. UMF keeper Paul Dupre (Rehoboth, Mass.) recorded seven saves for the Beavers.
Colby-Sawyer remains on the road tomorrow with a match at Thomas beginning at noon.
