NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 22, 2012 – The Colby-Sawyer College men's soccer team opened North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play with a 3-0 win over Green Mountain on Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers improve to 2-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the NAC, while Green Mountain dips to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
After a scoreless first half, the Chargers wasted little time in the second to take a lead. Sophomore
Austin Hall (Auburn, Calif.) put the home team up 1-0 on his first goal of the season 1:04 into the second frame.
Colby-Sawyer's advantage would be pushed to 2-0 less than two minutes later when sophomore
Chris DiCecca (Wilmington, Mass.) scored on a feed from former high school teammate junior
Kevin Flaherty (Wilmington, Mass.).
The Chargers were not done, as they put home a third goal in the 69th minute. Senior
Jon Mack (Melrose, Mass.) was able to collect the ball in traffic in front of the net and score in the lower left corner of the goal.
Sophomore
Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.) made one save in 85 minutes to earn the victory for the Chargers. Freshman
Jeff Dunn (Bellingham, Mass.) worked the final five minutes. Green Mountain senior keeper Nate Kishbaugh (Niskayuna, N.Y.) made eight saves in 81 minutes in the loss. Senior Toliver DiMasi (Winooski, Vt.) was in net for the remaining nine minutes.
Colby-Sawyer held a 21-3 advantage in shots and 8-0 edge in corner kicks.
Colby-Sawyer plays tomorrow at Wheaton at 3:00 pm. Green Mountain has a week off before hosting Castleton on Sunday, September 30 at noon.
