Men's Soccer Blanked by Plymouth, 4-0

BOX SCORE

SOUTH YARMOUTH, Mass. - August 31, 2012 - Plymouth State University rode a big second half to a 4-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer College in the first game of the 2012 ECAC Division III Soccer Classic on the Cape.  It was the season opener for both teams.

Plymouth got consecutive goals from Parker Spear (Sr., Sodus Point, NY) to open the scoring.  Spear first found net in the 64th minute when he drove in a rebound off a blast from Petro Masumbuko (Fr., Manchester, N.H.) to the lower right corner.  12 minutes later Spear took an assist from Christian Bua(Jr., Guilford, N.H.) from the right corner and shot from the right side to the lower left of Colby-Sawyer goal keeper Marc-Andre Parent (Fr., South Yarmouth, Mass.).

Bua also assisted on the third goal as he fed Ted Karlstrand (Fr., Halmstad, Sweden) in the center of the field.  Karlstrand sent the ball to the lower left side out of Parent's reach.

The Panther's fourth goal was scored by Santi Aguilar (Jr., Lima, Peru) as he drilled a shot from 20 yards that deflected off a Charger defender and hugged the right post in the 87th minute.  Aguilar had entered the game just a minute earlier, and the goal was his first as a Panther after having suffered season-ending injuries in the prior two pre-seasons.

Plymouth outshot Colby-Sawyer 17-5.  Parent finished the contest with four saves, while Bjorn Ohlsson (Sr., Halmstad, Sweden) had a pair of saves, both in the first half.

Plymouth will play John Jay College of Criminal Justice at 1:00 on Saturday in the second game of the Classic.  Colby- Sawyer will face John Jay at 1:00 Sunday.
