Men's Tennis Blanked by Wheaton, 9-0

NORTON, Mass. - April 22, 2012 - The Wheaton College men's tennis team posted a 9-0 win over Colby-Sawyer College in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at Beard Field House. With the win, the Lyons climb over the .500 mark at 7-6 while the Chargers fall to 7-11.

Senior Neall Oliver (Portland, Maine/Deering) won his 44th career match and ninth this season with a 6-0, 6-0 win over freshman Justin Pinard (Essex, Vt./Essex) at No. 1 singles. Sophomore Dan Sharon (Santa Monica, Calif./Brentwood School) won his second match in as many days with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over junior Reeve Fidler (Groton, Mass./Groton-Dunstable Regional) at No. 2 singles. The win lifts Sharon's record to 12-4.

At No. 3 singles, sophomore Ned Terrace (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) rallied for a 3-6, 6-0, 10-3 win over freshman Nolan Foley (Jaffrey, N.H./Conant). Classmate Sam Jackson (Darien, Conn./Darien) won his 11th match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over freshman Clay Allen (Massena, N.Y./New Hampton Prep) at No. 4 singles.

Freshman Lawrence Chan (Lincoln, R.I./Wheeler School) downed freshman Sergio Spassof (Pallini, Greece/ACS Athens) 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles. In doubles action, Oliver and Terrace upended Foley and Fidler 8-1 at No. 1 while Sharon and Jackson defeated Pinard and Spassof 8-3 at No. 3.
