SALEM, Mass. - April 12, 2012 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team lost a non-conference match at Salem State, 7-2 on Thursday afternoon.
The Vikings took two-of three doubles matches to open a 2-1 lead entering singles play as the Chargers slipped to 4-10 on the year.
Rob Random (Newbury, MA) and Josh Giller (Peabody, MA) teamed up for an 8-2 win at first singles over
Reeve Fidler (Groton, MA) and
Nolan Foley (Jaffrey, NH) while Kenny Hodgkins (Winthrop, MA) and Jong (Joe) Kim (Seoul, South Korea) earned their second win at third doubles with a 9-7 victory over
Zac Skyrme (Dunedin, Fla) and
Clay Allen (Massena, NY).
Sergio Spassof (Pallini, Greece) and
Justin Pinard (Essex, VT) earned the only doubles point for Colby Sawyer with an 8-6 win at second doubles.
Random led the way at first singles for Salem State as the Vikings took five-of-six from the Chargers. Random won 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at first singles and Lee took care of Fidler 6-2, 6-4 at second singles. Eglis Bizhoti (Dorchester, MA) earned a point at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Foley, and Hodgkins and Kim rounded out singles play with victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively. Only Allen prevented a sweep by Salem State with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 4 Singles.
Salem State takes on Little East for Bridgewater State at 1:00 PM on Saturday, while Colby Sawyer hosts Johnson State at 1:00 PM also on Saturday.
