Men's Basketball Controls Inside Play in 73-68 Win at Thomas

WATERVILLE, ME- December 7, 2012 - The Colby Sawyer men's basketball team scored 42 points in the paint and held a 57-41 edge in rebounds in Friday's 73-68 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win at Thomas College. 

Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in NAC play. Thomas drops to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference. 

Colby-Sawyer started the game on a 7-0 and never relinquished the lead in the first half. Thomas kept battling back by keeping the seven point deficit as the largest, which included back and forth baskets by both teams. The Terriers struggled to find a groove shooting wise, only hitting 27.3% (9-33) of their field goals attempted including only hitting 7.1% (1-14) from beyond the arc.

Freshman Levi Barnes (Skowhegan, Maine) led the Terriers in the first half with a team-high eight points, while Junior Marquis Pollard (Philadelphia, Pa.) had a team leading six rebounds. For the Chargers, sophomore Mike Dias (Carver, Mass) had a game-high in both points and rebounds with 10 points and eight boards.

The game was even four times in the up and down second half that also included four lead changes as well. The Chargers took control with an 11-0 run late in the second half, but the Terriers were able to come within five points before the game ended.

For Thomas, Barnes led the way with a team-high 22 points and Pollard grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Dias from Colby-Sawyer had a game-high 25 points and 14 caroms, while sophomore Koang Thok (Portland, Maine) added 21 points and freshman Peter Donato (Portland, Maine) had 12 rebounds.

The Terriers will play New England College tomorrow at home with a start time of 3:00 pm. Colby-Sawyer plays at Maine-Farmington tomorrow at 3:00 pm.
