NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 1, 2012 – The Colby-Sawyer College men's basketball team shot 75% in the second half and 51% for the game en route to a 95-58 win over Johnson State in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest on Saturday afternoon.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 1-4 overall and pulls even at 1-1 in the NAC. Johnson dips to 3-4 overall and is 1-1 in conference play.
Johnson took a 10-2 lead in the first five minutes after Colby-Sawyer missed nine of their first ten shot attempts. The Badgers held the lead until the 8:40 mark when sophomore
Zach Bean (Scarborough, Maine) connected on a trey to put Colby-Sawyer in front 19-18. The Chargers would never trail for the remainder of the game.
Colby-Sawyer controlled the paint on the offensive end and scored 50 of their 95 points in the post. The Chargers also scored 28 points on 26 Badger turnovers.
After 33.3% shooting in the first half, Colby-Sawyer made 24 of 32 attempts in the second (75%), including 5-7 (71.4%) from beyond the arc to finish the game with 51.4% shooting from the floor.
Sophomore
Mike Dias (Carver, Mass.) had career-highs of 28 points and 15 rebounds to lead all players. He was 13-20 from the floor. Sophomore
Koang Thok (Portland, Maine) scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half and added five steals.
Zach Bean scored a career-high 14 points and added four assists. Senior
Corey Willis (Easton, Mass.) collected a game best eight assists. Freshman
Peter Donato (Portland, Maine) contributed 10 points and six boards off the bench.
Sophomore Matt Fitzpatrick (Andover, Conn.) led Johnson State with 18 points and a game-high seven steals. Senior Andy Bousono (Philadelphia, Pa.) had nine points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals. Sophomores Asim Khan (Torrance, Calif.) and Ron Adrian (Schenectady, N.Y.) each had seven points.
Colby-Sawyer hosts Framingham on Monday at 7:00 pm, while the Badgers travel to Middlebury for a 7:00 pm tip on Thursday.
