Henniker, N.H.— October 3, 2012 - New England College men's soccer would net two unanswered second half goals leading the Pilgrims past the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers 2-1 Wednesday afternoon.
With the win the Pilgrims remain undefeated in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play improving to 3-0-1 and move to 7-3-2 overall. The loss drops the Chargers to 3-7-1 on the season and 2-2-0 in the NAC.
Colby-Sawyer would open the scoring early connecting on their first shot of the afternoon as
Max Yee (Hooksett, N.H.) would put in a nice feed from
Drew Pehoviak (Monson, Mass.) just 4:40 into the game.
New England College's best scoring opportunity would come in the 39th minute as Tim Cachat (Dalton, Mass.) would get off back-to-back shots but Colby-Sawyer keeper
Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.) would come up with two saves keeping the Pilgrims off the board.
The Pilgrims would knot the game at 1-1 in the 54th minute as Mann Arteaga (Norwalk, Conn.) would battle through two Charger defenders to notch his seventh goal of the season.
NEC would then connect with what would be the game-winner in the 66th minute as Ralph Bertrand (Rowley, Mass.) would rebound in a shot from Tim Cachat.
Colby-Sawyer would have three corners in the final minutes of the game but would be unable to muster a shot as NEC would hold on for the 2-1 victory.
Picking up the win in net for NEC was Robert Millard (Barrington, R.I.) who finished with six saves. Colby-Sawyer's
Nick Austin recorded 10 saves on the afternoon.
NEC returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 6 when they host NAC opponent Husson University. Colby-Sawyer will also take the field on Saturday, Oct.6 when they host conference foe Maine Maritime Academy.
