Men's Soccer Falls in Double OT at NEC, 2-1

BOX SCORE

HENNIKER, N.H. - October 27, 2012 - New England College men's soccer forward Ralph Bertrand (Rowley, Mass.) would come up with the game-winner with 1:12 remaining in the second overtime lifting the Pilgrims past the visiting Colby-Sawyer College Chargers 2-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Quarterfinal action Saturday evening.

With the win the Pilgrims advance to the NAC Semifinals and will square off against the second seeded Husson University Eagles on Tuesday, Oct. 30.  With the loss the Chargers close their season with an overall record of 5-11-2.

Neither team would muster a goal in the opening half as the Pilgrims would have their best scoring opportunity in the opening minute as Nathan Manna (Weare, N.H.) would get off a point blank shot that Colby-Sawyer keeper Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.) would stop.

The Chargers best scoring chance in the opening half came in the final five minutes as a header off the head of Jon Mack (Melrose, Mass.) would go just wide.

The Pilgrims would break the scoring drought in the 80th minute as Julian Yourawski (Peabody, Mass.) would head in a cross from Bienvenu Kanezu (Concord, N.H.).  The Chargers would answer with less than five minutes remaining in regulation as Michael Rooney (Hamilton, New Zealand) would score off a corner by Austin Hall (Auburn, Calif.) that would ricochet off a defender.

Neither team would be able to muster a goal in the first overtime but it would be the Pilgrims who would come up big with just 1:12 remaining in the second overtime as Ralph Bertrand would put in a redirection off the foot of Manny Arteaga (Norwalk, Conn.).

Picking up the win in net for NEC was Robert Millard (Barrington, R.I.) who finished with five saves.  Colby-Sawyer's Nick Austin recorded 12 saves on the evening.
