Swimming and Diving Celebrates Senior Day

NEW LONDON, N.H. - January 21, 2012 - The Colby-Sawyer College swimming and diving teams celebrated senior day on Saturday versus Regis College. The women won 158-81 while the men lost 97-160 to the visiting Pride.

Prior to the start of the meet, head coach Rick Georlitz recognized his four seniors. Michele Lewis and Morgan Parker were the two women honored and Owen Worden and Jack Nessen were the two men. Coach Goerlitz commented on all four, stating their ability to be dynamic swimmers and divers as well as compete in numerous events as needed by the team.

On the women's side, the Chargers were led by freshman Krystyna Estrada. Estrada placed first in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard freestyle. She finished her 50 yard freestyle race in 25.41 breaking her own school record. Estrada also helped the 800 yard freestyle relay team to a first place finish.

Sophomore Erin Dunican earned two individual first places finishes in the 50 yard breaststroke and the 200 yard breaststroke. Dunican broke her own school record in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:35.37. She also helped two relay teams to first place finishes in the 200 yard medley relay and the 800 yard freestyle relay.

Junior Hannah Fairbank won the 100 yard butterfly and helped the 800 yard freestyle relay team to a first place finish.

Junior Emily Olson won the 200 yard freestyle and the her time of 6:03.44 in the 500 yard freestyle would have been a first place finish but she swam exhibition in that event to keep the score closer. Olson was the fourth member of the first place 800 yard freestyle team.

Freshman Adrian Copeland won the 50 yard backstroke and helped the 200 yard medley relay team of Erin Dunican, Jen Gavell and Lanie White to a first place finish.

On the men's side, sophomore Keenan Bartlett led the Chargers with a first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle and a second place finish in the 100 yard backstroke.

Sophmore Eric Foulds and freshman Ian Whippie each placed first in the one meter dive events. Foulds won the first dive (event 16) and Whippie the second (event 28)

Senior Owen Worden earned a pair of second place finishes in the 50 yard breaststroke and the 200 yard breaststroke.

Senior Jack Nessen placed second in the 100 Yard Butterfly.

The Chargers return to the pool on January 28, 2012 when they travel to the University of New England. Events will begin at 1:00pm.
