Women's Soccer Keeps Offense Rolling in 5-1 Win over Green Mountain

POULTNEY, Vt. - September 24, 2011 -
The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team pushed its win streak  to four games after a 5-1 victory at Green Mountain in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play Saturday afternoon.

The Chargers improve to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in NAC play. Colby-Sawyer has outscored its opponents  19-1 during the win streak. The team travels to nonconference foe Gordon on Wednesday for a 3:30pm tilt. Green Mountain, 0-4-1 overall and 0-3 in NAC play, will take on MCLA on Wednesday September 28th at 4:00pm.

Colby-Sawyer drew first blood, Marion James headed home a Sarah Little cross in the 27th minute, putting Colby-Sawyer up 1-0. Undaunted, the Eagles answered right back when sophomore Sarah Porter beat Shalyn Spencer from distance less than a minute later, evening the score.

Colby-Saywer held the advantage on shots on the first half by a margin on 6-2, but Green Mountain held their own, and showed signs of stepping up to a new level.

The second half was a different story, as Colby-Sawyer used its depth to tack on four goals and create the final margin of 5-1. Lauren Bernard found the net in the 50th minute to put Colby-Sawyer College ahead, and then the floodgates opened when Adrienne Bender finished a breakaway in the 62nd minute. Stephanie Huntley followed that with a goal in the 71st minute, and Lauren Bernard tallied her second of the game a minute later for the final margin of 5-1.

Shalyn Spencer picked up the win for Colby-Sawyer. Emma Lord made ten saves in the loss for the Eagles.
