NEW LONDON, N.H. - April 9, 2011 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team was defeated by Salve Regina, 6-3 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference on Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks improve to 4-7 overall and 4-3 in the TCCC. Colby-Sawyer drops to 2-6 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
Salve Regina took a 2-1 lead after earning doubles victories at No. 1 with junior Brian Castrichini (Winchester, Mass.) and sophomore Aaron Isch (Tolland, Conn.) and No. 2 with freshman Colin Gunning (Norwell, Mass.) and sophomore Chad Strong (San Diego, Calif.). Castrichini and Isch won 8-2, while Gunning and Strong earned an 8-3 win. Colby-Sawyer's lone doubles victory came at the third flight. Sophomore

Eric Caples beat sophomore James Diamantopoulos (West Yarmouth, Mass.) and sophomore Kenneth McCormack (Falmouth, Mass.), 8-2.
Strong and Isch put the away team in a great spot to win the match after earning straight set victories at the first and second flight, respectively. Castrichini clinced the victory in the match of the day. After winning easily in the first set 6-0, Colby-Sawyer sophomore
Reeve Fidler won set two 7-5. Both competitors battled back and forth in the deciding set, but Castrichini came away with the 11-9 win.
Caples and Svensson earned the Chargers' singles victories in the No. 5 and No. 6 slots, respectively.
Colby-Sawyer will be back on the court tomorrow with a non-conference tilt with Wheaton at 11:00 am. Endicott hosts TCCC foe Endicott on Monday at 4:00 pm.
