NEW LONDON, N.H. – February 3, 2011 – Sophomore Lance Greene (Dorchester, Mass.) scored a game-high 20 points to lead the visiting Gulls of Endicott to a 65-61 triumph over Colby-Sawyer in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC), on Thursday evening.
The Gulls improve to 14-6 overall and 6-2 in TCCC action. Colby-Sawyer drops to 10-9 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
Green went 10-10 from the free throw line and added seven rebounds to his 20 points. Freshman Bennett Knowlton (Shrewsbury, Mass.) had 12 points off the bench. Freshman Lachlan Magee (Melbourne, Australia) was the third Endicott player to reach double-figures with 11 points. Junior Erik Callo (Southington, Conn.) was a force on the defensive end blocking eight shots and pulling down seven rebounds.
Colby-Sawyer was led by 19 points from junior
Will Bardaglio (Wayne, Maine). Bardaglio connected on five three pointers. Freshman
Robbie Burke (Cheshire, Mass.) added 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Chargers controlled the tempo for the first 10 minutes of the game and held a comfortable double-digit lead. Endicott responded over the next five minutes sparked by a 12-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 22-19. The teams traded baskets over the final five minutes and Colby-Sawyer knocked down four straight free throws to lead 29-28 at the half. The Gulls turned 13 Colby-Sawyer turnovers into 11 points.
In the second, the Chargers again flew out to a double-digit point lead at 49-38 with 12 minutes to play. As they did in the first, Endicott slowly chipped away and regained the lead with seven minutes left 52-51. The rest of the game featured seven lead changes and four ties. The Chargers were in front 59-58 with 1:39 on the clock when Knowlton made a layup and converted on the three point play after getting fouled. A pair of free throws from Greene and one from Magee and Knowlton secured the 65-61 road victory for Endicott.
Both teams shot and identical 21-56 from the floor (37.5), but Endicott received 30 points off their bench to Colby-Sawyer's six.
Colby-Sawyer travels to Salve Regina on Saturday for a 3:00 pm tip. Endicott will host Regis on Saturday also with a 3:00 pm tip.
