Men’s Basketball Ends Losing Skid with 77-68 Win over UNE

NEW LONDON, N.H. – February 12, 2011 – Colby-Sawyer freshman Robbie Burke (Cheshire, Mass.) scored 20 points on 9-11 shooting to lead the Chargers to a 77-68 victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon. 

Colby-Sawyer, who snapped a four game losing streak, evens their record to 11-11 and improves to 7-4 in the TCCC. UNE falls to 4-19 overall and 2-9 in conference play. 

Burke scored 13 of his game-high 20 points in the second half to help lift the Chargers to the win. He added a game best 10 rebounds in 25 minutes. Junior James Tobin (Brookline, N.H.) poured in a career-high 18 points on 8-9 shooting. Junior Will Bardaglio (Wayne, Maine) added 17 points and a career-high nine rebounds. 

The Nor'easters were led by junior Ryan Knotek (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.). He had 14 points and went 7-8 from the free throw line. Senior Chas Rentrope (Peoria, Ariz.) and junior Marcus Winn (Austin, Texas) contributed 13 points each. Freshman Charles Fenner (Bronx, N.Y.) was the fourth UNE player to register double-figures with 11 points. 

The first half was back and forth the entire and featured seven ties and eight lead changes. Colby-sawyer shot 40% from the floor, while holding UNE to 28% and just seven field goals. The Nor'easters were able to hang in the game as they turned 13 Colby-Sawyer turnovers into 11 points and went 13-19 from the free throw line. The teams were locked at 31-31 at the break. 

UNE jumped out to its largest lead of the game a few minutes into the second half at 40-35. Colby-Sawyer responded with a 17-4 run to regain the lead 52-44 and never looked back. The Nor'easters could not get any closer than six for the remaining 10 minutes. Colby-Sawyer shot 61.3% from the floor in the second. 

Colby-Sawyer scored 58 of its 77 points in the paint en route to a 50.8 shooting percentage. The Chargers also held a 47-31 edge in rebounds and scored 17 second chance points. 

Colby-Sawyer plays at Wentworth on Wednesday, February 16 at 7:30 pm, while UNE hosts Gordon at 8:00 pm also on Wednesday.
