CASTLETON, Vt. – October 30, 2011 - The Spartans scored once in the first half and twice more in the second 45 minutes on their way to the team's 10th straight appearance in the North Atlantic Conference semifinals, beating Colby-Sawyer 3-1 at Spartan Stadium on sunny Sunday afternoon.

Castleton was the aggressor out of the gate, nearly scoring in the 10th minute on a header by Jacob Roswell (Hartford, Vt.) off a corner from Trevor Kotrady (No. Clarendon, Vt.) corner.

The Spartans broke though in the 19th minute, when sophomore Spencer Dandurand (Colchester, Vt.) was fouled while trying dribble his way into the 18. Junior Tanner LeCuyer (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) took the ensuring free kick and blasted the ball around the wall in front of him and into the far right corner of the net for his third goal of the season.

In the second half, Dandurand put the Spartans up 2-0 with a nice shot from the top of the 18 at the 50:50 mark. With a defender on his back, the sophomore made quick spin move and fired a shot into the lower left corner of the net, his sixth score of the season.

Castleton pushed its advantage to 3-0 in the 80th minute. Freshman Bryce Kaler (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) found Kotrady just inside the 18 and he needed just one dribble to get a shot by Colby-Sawyer keeper Will Berry (Berlin, Vt.).

The Chargers finally got on the board in the 86th minute as Mike Laskowski (Fremont, N.H.) scored off a rebound in front of the net.

Sophomore Nate Koenemann (Montpelier, Vt.) finished with four saves on the afternoon, while Berry made 13 stops in net as the Spartans out-shot Colby-Sawyer 33-14. The Chargers end their season with a 5-12-1 record.

Castleton improves to 11-5-2 and moves on to the NAC semifinals to face the winner of Monday's quarterfinal matchup between New England College and the University of Maine at Farmington.
