Castleton Rallies for 2-1 Win over Men's Soccer

BOX SCORE

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 25, 2011 – The Castleton men's soccer team erased a 1-0 halftime deficit with two second half goals to earn a 2-1 road win at Colby-Sawyer in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Tuesday afternoon.

Castleton improves to 10-5-2 overall and finish the regular season with a 7-1-1 mark in NAC play. Colby-Sawyer falls to 5-11-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the conference.

Colby-Sawyer scored first in the 29th minute after the team was awarded a penalty kick for a foul in the box. Freshman Alex Ortega (Milton, Vt.) calmly deposited the ball into the left corner of the net as the goalie dove the other way.

The Spartans found the equalizer in the 69th minute. Junior Jacob Roswell (Hartford, Vt.) dribbled the ball down the right side of the field and was challenged by the keeper as he entered the box. With the goalie coming out, Roswell found freshman teammate Bryce Kaler (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) who was open on the left side of the box and put the ball into the open net.

Castleton went on top for good in the 80th minute after a misplay by the Chargers defense. Spartans junior Trevor Kotrady (North Clarendon, Vt.) gathered the ball and broke away from the defenders. The keeper once again came out to challenge, but Kotrady slipped the ball to his left for his NAC leading 13th goal of the season.

Castleton held a 17-10 edge in shots.

Spartans keeper Nate Koenemann (Montpelier, Vt.) picked up his 10th win of the season and made four saves. Colby-Sawyer freshman goalie Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.) made six saves in the loss.

Colby-Sawyer travels to Rivier on Thursday for a non-conference tilt at 7:00 pm. Castleton has wrapped up regular season play and will wait for matchups to be announced in the upcoming NAC tournament.
