Swimming & Diving Sweeps Bridgewater State in Season Opener

NEW LONDON, N.H. - October 22, 2011 - The Colby-Sawyer men's and women's swimming & diving teams began the 2011-12 season with a pair of victories over Bridgewater State. The men won 162-74, while the women earned the 161-125 victory.

The women's team was led by a record breaking performance from freshman Krystyna Estrada (Lebanon, N.H.). She touched the wall in 25.93 in the 50 freestyle breaking the previous mark of 25.99 set by Signe Linville in 2004.

Sophomore Erin Dunican (Bennington, Vt.) won the 50 and 100 breaststroke events. She also was a member on the 200 yard medley relay and 200 yard freestyle relay teams that took first place.

The men's side was led by a four-win day by freshman Travis Dennison (Ellsworth, Maine). He took the top spot in the 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 50 butterfly, and the 200 medley relay.

Captain Owen Worden (New Bedford, Mass.) also won four events. He was the first to touch the wall in the 100 breaststroke and the 100 IM. He also was on the 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay teams that took the top spot.

Freshman Kyle Harris (New Holland, Pa.) was the third Charger to be a winner in four events. He won the 1000 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and the 200 freestyle relay.

The Chargers return to the pool next Saturday with a meet at Gordon at 1:00 pm
