NEW LONDON, N.H. - October 12, 2011 - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team avenged a 9-0 loss earlier in the season by handing Castleton its first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) loss of the season in a 5-4 win. The loss for the Spartans snaps a 21 regular season conference match win streak.
The Chargers improve to 8-6 overall and finish the regular season with a 7-1 record in the NAC. Castleton suffers its first NAC loss and drops to 6-1, while falling to 10-4 overall.
Castleton wraps up the regular season tomorrow with a NAC contest at Johnson State. Colby-Sawyer awaits seeding for this weekend's North Eastern Atlantic Conference (NEAC) East Division tournament.
Colby-Sawyer jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play, but the decision came down to the last match. After completion of No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles the match was on the shoulders of Colby-Sawyer's
Kathleen Rogers and Castleton's Chelsea Crehan at the fifth flight.
Creahan won the first set in convincing fashion, 6-3, but Rogers battled back with two solid wins in sets two and three to lift Colby-Sawyer to the 5-4 victory.
