BOX SCORE

NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 19, 2011 – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team defeated the Colonels of Curry College, who was picked to win The Commonwealth Coast Conference, 69-65 on Wednesday evening.

The Chargers improve to 8-7 overall and remain unbeaten in The Commonwealth Coast Conference, moving into sole possession of first place at 4-0. Curry falls to 4-11 overall and 2-2 in TCCC play.

The first half featured unbelievable shooting performances from players of each team. Colby-Sawyer junior Will Bardaglio (Wayne, Maine) went 7-12 from beyond the arc en route to 21 first half points. Not to be out done, Curry junior Jarrell Jackson (Brockton, Mass.) shot 7-11 from the floor for 19 first half points. After five ties and six lead changes, the Colonels found themselves ahead 39-37 at the half.

Colby-Sawyer freshman Robbie Burke (Cheshire, Mass.) scored 14 of his 23 points in the second half, which led to an 18-8 advantage in points in the paint. Curry was led by sophomore Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, Mass.). Although he struggled shooting the ball in the second (3-14), he led the Colonels with 10 second half points.

With the game tied at 65-65 with two and a half minutes to play, Burke gave the home team a two point lead when he drove through the lane for a layup. A couple of defensive stands by Colby-Sawyer and a pair of free throws by Bardaglio, who was ranked ninth in the nation in free throw percentage coming into the game, secured the 69-65 victory for Colby-Sawyer.

Bardaglio led all players with 29 points, including eight three pointers and was 5-5 from the charity stripe. Burke, the reigning TCCC Rookie of the Week, recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Chargers.

Curry was led by 22 points from Jones. He also had a game best four blocks. Jackson added 21 points on 7-15 shooting.
