NORTON, Mass. - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team fell to Wheaton College, 7-2 in non-league action at the Clark Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon.
Improving its all-time mark against the Chargers to 4-0 while playing them for the first time since 2005, Wheaton improved to 11-3. Colby-Sawyer fell to 5-9.
The hosts took two of three doubles matches in gaining a 2-1 edge, as juniors Harry Altman and Brian Krantz improved to 10-2 as a tandem with an 8-1 victory in the third position.
At second doubles, senior James Little and junior Gregory Poulin notched an 8-4 win.
Senior Kyle Hudgins and sophomore Neall Oliver came up just short to freshmen
Gustav Norberg and
Adam Whitman in the number-one doubles position, falling 9-8 in a tiebreaker.
Wheaton collected straight-set victories in the first through third singles slots and in the fifth and sixth positions. Hudgins and Altman allowed three games at three and six, respectively, while Little and Krantz surrendered five games in the second and fifth positions, respectively.
Oliver defeated Norberg by a 6-3, 6-4 count in the top spot, and senior
Bryan Racz knocked off Poulin, 7-6, 6-3 at number four.
The Chargers resume TCCC action on Tuesday with a 3:00pm tilt at Curry College.
