NEW LONDON, N.H. – March 15, 2010 – The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team completed their spring break portion of the 2010 schedule with a 5-4 victory over Saint Joseph's of Long Island. The team played four matches in total in beautiful Orlando, Florida.
Wabash 7, CSC 2
Colby-Sawyer began the trip with a 7-2 loss to Wabash College. The Chargers' two victories came at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles.
Gustav Norberg had his hand in both victories. He defeated Zach Lowry in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 at the singles spot. He then teamed with
Adam Whitman at doubles to take down Peter Gunderman and Ian Leonard, 8-4 in doubles.
Albion 9, CSC 0
Lake Forest 8, CSC 1
Albion College and Lake Forest each earned victories over Colby-Sawyer in the next two matches. The Chargers were shutout by Albion, 9-0 and were defeated by Lake Forest, 8-1. Norberg and Whitman were responsible for the Chargers lone victory against Lake Forest in the top doubles spot.
CSC 5, St. Joseph's 4
After three touch losses to quality opponents, Colby-Sawyer finished the week against Saint Joseph's of Long Island. The Chargers squeaked by with a 5-4 decision.
Rob Barnes and
Chris Lavoie won at No. 2 doubles, while Lavoie also picked up a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles.
Bryan Racz and
Jamie Thormann easily defeated their opponents at No. 3 doubles, 8-2. Norberg continued to play well throughout the trip and earned another victory at the first flight. He defeated Dan Celentano 7-5, 6-4.
Reeve Fidler won the deciding match at No. 6 singles in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 over Andrew Boehm.
The Chargers return to action with their first home match of the spring on Wednesday, March 24 at 3:30pm against Endicott.
