NEW LONDON, N.H. – February 9, 2010 – Colby-Sawyer freshman
Jason Chevrefils (Manchester, N.H.) led all players with 19 points to lead Colby-Sawyer to a 74-63 victory over Gordon, who was previously unbeaten in the TCCC. Colby-Sawyer improves to 12-10 overall and pulls even at 5-5 in the conference. Gordon suffers just its fourth loss of the season dropping to 17-4 overall and 9-1 in the TCCC.
Gordon took control of the first three minutes of the contest by jumping out to an 8-2 lead. However, that would be their biggest and last advantage of the contest. Colby-Sawyer rallied with a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to create space against the conference's top team. The Chargers led by as many as 12 in the first 20 minutes in part to 16 points off of 10 Fighting Scots turnovers. Colby-Sawyer led 37-28 at the break.
Jason Chevrefils had 13 points in the first half as he controlled the painted area down low. Senior
Jon Chaloux (Barre, Vt.) chipped in 10 first half points including two treys. The Chargers were 4-8 from beyond the arc in the first half and shot 50% from the floor. Gordon spread around its first half point total with all eight players who saw minutes getting into the scoring column. Senior Aaron Trigg (Overland Park, Kan.) led the Fighting Scots with six points.
The Chargers stretched their nine-point half time lead to 16 with less than 11 minutes to play after senior
Dave Rosso (Wilmington, Vt.) hit back to back three-pointers. Gordon did not give up and fought back for the remainder of the game. The Fighting Scots cut the deficit to six after forcing a couple of Colby-Sawyer turnovers. Trigg nailed a trey to make the score 65-59 in favor of Colby-Sawyer with two minutes to play. The Chargers hit their free throws down the stretch to ice the game and stave off a Gordon comeback. The final score was Colby-Sawyer 74 and Gordon 63.
Chevrefils led all players with 19 points on 9-14 shooting. Chaloux finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Rosso made four of six three-pointers to finish with 14 points. Freshman
Will Bardaglio (Wayne, Maine) added 11 points. Freshman
Corey Willis (Easton, Mass.) chipped in with seven points, six rebounds and seven assists.
Trigg led Gordon with 14 points. Senior Brady Bajema (Whitinsville, Mass.) and junior Greg Walker (Uxbridge, Mass.) each added 11 points. Senior Benjamin Gaskill (Columbus, Ohio) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
The Chargers will play their final regular season road game at the University of New England on Saturday at 3:00pm. Gordon will take a break from TCCC action to travel to Bates on Thursday for a 7:00pm tip.
