NORTHFIELD, Vt. - December 4, 2010 - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team defeated Johnson State, 61-42 on night one of the Hockenbury Classic. With the win, the Chargers will play Norwich on Sunday at 3:00 pm. The Cadets advanced to the championship game after a 90-54 win over Maine-Augusta.
The first half was tightly played as both teams shot the ball well. The Chargers made half of their shots, while Johnson State made 43% of their attempts. Colby-Sawyer trailed 23-19 with five minutes remaining in the first half before they exploded for a 13-2 run to close the frame. The Chargers also held the Badgers without a field goal in that span.
The Badgers began the second half on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 32-32, but the Chargers responded with a pair of three-pointers from junior
Will Bardaglio to regain control. Colby-Sawyer led 46-40 with eight minutes left in the contest and held the Badgers without a field goal for the rest of the way.
Colby-Sawyer continued to shoot the ball well in the second, but Johnson State couldn't find the range shooting just 25% from the floor and was 0-8 from beyond the arc.
Bardaglio led all players with 16 points. Freshman
John Roberts scored 14 points, while freshman
Robbie Burke added 10. Sophomore
Corey Willis flirted with a triple-double with nine points, eight assists, and seven rebounds.
Rob Key led the Badgers with 11 points and nine rebounds. Bryan Hickey, Billy Boyd, and Ian Passino each added eight points.
