BOX SCORE
BRUNSWICK, Maine - October 24, 2010 - The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team fell to 14th-ranked Bowdoin College, 5-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Polar Bears improve to 10-1-2 and win their ninth consecutive outing. The Chargers fall to 7-8-3 with the loss.
Bowdoin controlled the pace of play from the start, and found the back of the net just 6:47 in when Nick Powell headed a nifty cross from Zach Danssaert into the net for a one-goal lead. Colby-Sawyer netminder
Will Berry kept his team close through the remainder of the period, stopping eight shots - several in spectacular fashion - before the Polar Bears were able to break through again shortly before intermission. Tim Prior juggled the ball at the top of the box, deked his defender out of position and rifled a low shot that bent around the outstretched arms of Berry for a two-goal lead at the break.
Call Nichols accepted a feed from Prior in the 53rd minute to notch his second goal of the season before Greg Frechette knocked home his first goal of the season with five minutes remaining. Zach Ostrup rounded out the scoring with a ball that deflected off a Colby-Sawyer defender in the 87th minute.
Berry made 13 saves in all for the Chargers, who were out-shot 23-6 and out-cornered 9-2. Will Wise got the start for Bowdoin in net and was not forced to make a save in 70 minutes before giving way to Peter Kelley, who stopped one shot in the final 20.
Bowdoin will close out their regular season on Friday when they travel to play at Tufts. Colby-Sawyer will round out their regular season on Wednesday against Wentworth.
