Regis Defeats Men's Basketball, 89-69

WESTON, Mass. - January 9, 2010 - Four Chargers scored in double-figures, but it was not enough as Regis picked up an 89-69 victory in the TCCC season opener for each team.  Regis is 5-7 overall and 1-0 in the TCCC. Colby-Sawyer drops to 7-6 overall and 0-1 TCCC play.

Senior Jesse Vega (Pawtucket, R.I.) had a game high 17 points to lead Regis College. Vega finished with 17 points, went 4-of-8 (.500) from the field, and an impressive 9-of-11 (.818) from the free-throw line in 37 minutes.

Senior James Cooper (Philadelphia, Pa.) was two rebounds short of having a triple-double. He finished with 15 points on 7-of-9 (.778) shooting, and was credited with 10 assists for Regis.

The Chargers' Jason Chevrefils (Manchester, N.H.) and Will Bardaglio (Wayne, Maine) had 15 points apiece.

Baradaglio went 5-of-8 (.625) from the field. Chevrefils went 5-of-11 from the field, and 5-of-9 from the free-throw line in 31:00 minutes of play.

Jon Chaloux (Barre, Vt.) and Dave Rosso (Wilmington, Vt.) scored 14 and 10 points, respectively. Rosso was 3-of-5 (.600) from behind the three-point line.

Regis' Jimmy Irmiter (Chicago, Ill.) rang in with 16 points, a season high, on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. Irmiter shot better than 57 percent from behind the three-point line.

Phil Alibrandi (York, Maine) and freshman Ndubisi Ezeigwe (Brockton, Mass.) gave the Pride 14 and 10 points respectively. Alibrandi was 5-of-8 (.625) from the field, and .500 from behind the arc and free-throw line.

Colby-Sawyer to just 37 percent from the floor, while the Pride shot 55.7 percent from the floor.

In a first half with four lead changes and ties, Regis College did not relinquish its lead once in the second half.

A three-pointer by Bardaglio with 13:30 remaining tied the game at 53-53, but Regis' Irmiter answered with a three of his own, giving Regis a 56-53 lead.

Colby-Sawyer's Chris Cox (Graniteville, Vt.) brought the Chargers within one, but Regis would not look back as it increased its lead.

With Irmiter converting another three-pointer with 8:20 remaining, Regis College held a 10-point lead, and battled defensively to hold Colby-Sawyer from etching into Regis' chase for the victory.

The two teams take the court in TCCC action Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m. when Regis College hosts Salve Regina, and Colby-Sawyer will host New England College.
