Chargers Shoot 63% in Second Half to Preserve 74-47 Win over Nichols

NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 23, 2010 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team shot 63% in the second half en route to a 74-47 victory over Nichols College, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Chargers improve to 6-11 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Nichols drops to 8-8 overall and 1-4 in the TCCC. 

The story of the first half was Colby-Sawyer's dominance in the paint. The Chargers outscored Nichols 20-0 with most of the points coming from post players senior Terri Duffy and freshman Sammi Lehr. Duffy had 12 first half points, while Lehr had six. The Chargers also went to the free throw line more than the Bison in the first half. Although Colby-Sawyer made just 4-13 from the line, they held Nichols without an attempt. 

Nichols was able to keep it close in the first 20 minutes with eight points from junior Ashley Robidoux (Milford, Mass.). The team also knocked down three treys and trailed by just six at the break.
Colby-Sawyer shot the lights out in the second half and continued to put up points in the paint. The team scored 32 of their 47 second half points in the post, leading to a 63% shooting mark. The Chargers held a 46-34 edge on the glass, which led to a 17-2 margin in second chance points. 

Duffy led the Chargers with her ninth double-double (20 points, 13 rebounds). Lehr also had a double-double with a career-high 19 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore Maggie Rossi chipped in 10 points and a game-high five assists. 

Robidoux led all scorers in the game with 21 points on 7-12 shooting and was 3-3 from beyond the arc. 

The Chargers will host Eastern Nazarene on January 28 at 5:30 pm. The Bison host Western New England, also on the 28th, for an 8:00 pm tip.
