Middlebury Squeaks by Men's Soccer 1-0

Box Score

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - September 16, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team fell to Middlebury 1-0 on a goal by Robbie Redmond with just 3:54 left on the clock. The Chargers will return home and resume TCCC play on Saturday, September 19 for a 12:30 pm match with New England College.
Middlebury had several golden scoring opportunities in the game, but could only solve Colby-Sawyer goalkeeper Chris Feltes (Manchester, N.H.) once. Feltes finished the contest with seven saves.
Tyler Macnee fed both Jake Edwards and Carson Cornbrooks midway through the first half, with the first shot being saved and the second sailing wide. Cornbrooks just missed again in the 54th minute, before Middlebury's best chance to score was denied by Feltes from close-range as Macnee was stopped after a nice feed from Edwards. Colby-Sawyer had a chance to get on the board in the 79th minute, but Andrew Popp's (Milford, Mass.) corner kick was saved by Tim Cahill (2 saves).
Redmond settled a ball 25 yards from the goal, before ripping a shot into the top of the net for the game-winner.
Following Redmond's game-winner, the Chargers made one last effort in the final minute, but Cahill deflected a shot from Brian Lombard after a feed from James Longe (Richford, Vt.).
The Panthers controlled much of the play, holding an 18-4 shots advantage as well as a 12-2 lead in corner kicks.
