SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - April 9, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team won its second straight match with a 6-3 victory over Western New England on Thursday. With the win, the Chargers improve to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play. The Golden Bears dip to 7-5 overall and 4-3 in TCCC action.
The Golden Bears took an early 2-0 lead after earning victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. However, Evan Campbell and Bryan Racz got the Chargers on the board with a 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
After the completion of the doubles matches, Colby-Sawyer took control of the match by winning five of the six singles matches. Hart Callahan breezed past Alex Boutin 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Campbell earned a hard fought victory at No. 3 singles 7-5, 6-2 while Racz took three sets to get by Jason Lee at the fourth flight. Chris Lavoie and Jamie Thormann earned victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The Chargers remain on the road with an away match at Brandeis on Monday, April 13 at 3:00 p.m.
