BRISTOL, R.I. – April 5, 2009 – The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team had its three match win streak snapped by the first place Hawks of Roger Williams on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks won 6-3 behind strong singles play. The Chargers drop to 5-6 overall and 3-2 in TCCC play. Roger Williams is now 9-6 overall and remains perfect in conference play with a 4-0 record.
The Chargers took an early lead after taking two of the three doubles matches. Sophomore Hart Callahan (Malvern, Pa.) and senior Ben Taylor (Derry, N.H.) defeated Jeff DeNunzio and Dan Kleitz at No. 1 doubles, 8-2. After the Hawks evened the score at 1-1 with a win at No. 2 doubles, the Chargers regained the lead with a victory at No. 3 doubles. Senior Evan Campbell (White River Jct. Vt.) and junior Ben Dabush (Weston, Conn.) defeated Jeff Agonia and Ryan Kim, 9-7.
Junior Bryan Racz (Stratton, Vt.) earned the lone singles victory at the sixth flight. After dropping the first set 7-6, Bryan rebounded to win the next two sets 6-3 and 6-4.
The men's tennis team hits the road on Wednesday, April 8 for a match at Gordon. The contest begins at 4:00 p.m.
