BEVERLY, Mass. – April 14, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to the Gulls of Endicott, on Tuesday in Beverly, Mass. The Gulls improve to 9-5 overall and 6-2 in the TCCC while Colby-Sawyer falls to 5-3 in conference and dips below .500 at 7-8 overall.
The Gulls started the day strong as Endicott was able to take two-of-three doubles matches. Colby-Sawyer's Hart Callahan (Malvern, Pa.) and Ben Taylor (Derry, N.H.) combined to take down Endicott's Josh Schoen (Phoenix, Az.) and Scott Teller (Granville, N.Y.) in number one doubles, 8-1. Endicott would rebound and take the final two matchups of the day as Mike D'Ambra (Barrington, R.I.) and Devon Locke (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) won in number two singles against Robert Barnes (Wayland, Mass.) and Jamie Thormann, (Northeast Harbor, Maine) 8-2. Dan Murray (Coventry, R.I.) and Marc Maloney (Feeding Hills, Mass.) took down the Chargers' Ben Dabush (Weston, Conn.) and Evan Campbell (White River Junction, Vt.) to give the Gulls an early 2-1 lead on the day.
Endicott took control in singles as Schoen, Murray, and Locke all won their matchups at first, second, and third singles, respectively. Schoen defeated Callahan, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), while Dan Murray cruised to a win at No. 2 singles over Ben Dabush by matching sets of 6-2. Devon Locke would down Ben Taylor in number three singles, 6-1, 6-2. Colby-Sawyer would salvage a pair of wins in fourth and fifth singles as Bryan Racz (Stratton, Vt.) defeated D'Ambra (6-3, 6-0) and Evan Campbell beat Endicott's Scott Teller, 6-2, 6-2. The Gulls would pick up one more win in No. 6 singles as Gabriel Moraga (Marlborough, Conn.) defeated Chris Lavoie, (Gorham, Maine) 6-4, 6-3, to secure the Endicott win at 6-3.
The Chargers will travel to Wentworth for their final regular season tune-up, scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
