NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 1, 2009 – The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team handed Nichols its first conference loss of the season with a 6-2 victory over the Bison. The Chargers have won three straight matches and even their record at 5-5 overall and improve to 3-1 in TCCC play. Nichols falls to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in conference action.
Sophomore Hart Callahan (Malvern, Pa.) continued his brilliant play earning two more points in the win. He defeated Stephen Carella (Rocky Hill, Conn.) at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-2. Callahan and No. 1 doubles partner Ben Taylor (Derry, N.H.) earned an 8-5 win over Jack Baker (Chesire, Conn.) and Tyler McLaughlin (Hollis, N.H.). Taylor also won at No. 3 singles by defeating Baker 6-2, 6-2.
Nichols freshman Eliot Wuhrmann (Fontainbleau, France) picked up a point at No. 4 sinlges with a victory over Chris Lavoie (Gorham, Maine) 6-2, 6-1.
Senior Evan Campbell (White River Jct., Vt.) and junior Ben Dabush (Weston, Conn.) each won their singles match as well their No. 3 doubles match.
The Chargers play at Roger Williams on Saturday April 4, while the Bison host Becker on Thursday April 2.
