NORTHFIELD, Vt. – March 26, 2009 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team won a 6-3 decision against Norwich, Thursday afternoon in a non-league match at Shapiro Field House. The Chargers swept the three doubles sets, and then captured three of the six singles points en route to the victory.
With the win, Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-3 during the spring, while Norwich falls to 0-3 on the young season.
Chargers' senior Evan Campbell (White River Junction, Vt.) won in straight sets over Travis Tyler(Rowley, Mass.), while Ben Dabush (Weston, Conn.) won his 2nd flight singles match, 6-4, 6-4, over Collin Hyte (Marblehead, Mass.).
Senior Peter Hooper (Spartanburg, S.C.) continued his dominance in singles play as the Cadets' No. 1 player swept aside Hart Callahan (Malvern, Pa.), 6-4, 6-4. Hooper remains undefeated in singles action since arriving at Norwich prior to last season.
Matt Sanford (North Stonington, Conn.) outlasted Robert Barnes (Wayland, Mass.), 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 (13-11) at No. 3 singles, and Graham Oliveira defeated Eric Caples (Billerica, Mass.), 7-5, 6-3, at No. 6 singles to round out NU's scoring on the day.
The Chargers will host the seven-time TCCC defending champions, Salve Regina on Saturday, March 28, starting at 1:00 p.m. Norwich will host Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Johnson & Wales. First serve for the conference match is set for 1 p.m.
