NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 17, 2009 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team pushed its TCCC record to 3-0 with a 72-25 victory over Anna Maria, on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers are now 9-5 overall, while Anna Maria drops to 3-11 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
Colby-Sawyer jumped out to a 14-2 lead after the first four minutes of action and did not look back. The Chargers did the most damage in the paint, racking up 24 points down low in the first half. Colby-Sawyer also took advantage of Anna Maria's 20 first half turnovers by scoring 16 points.
Colby-Sawyer junior Terri Duffy (Marshfield, Mass.) led all scorers in the first 20 minutes with 10 points. Sophomore Katelyn Stravinsky (Norwell, Mass.) added seven points. Sophomore Emily Nugent (Worcester, Mass.) led the way for Anna Maria with six points.
The Chargers were able to keep the pressure on the AMCATS in the second half holding them to just two field goals. Freshman Samantha Ashton (Worcester, Mass.) scored seven of the team's nine second half points. She finished with a team-high 11 points.
For Colby-Sawyer, Duffy narrowly recorded a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. Senior Emma Pasquale (Eliot, Maine) recorded six points, five rebounds and four assists. Junior Amy Hebert (Keene, N.H.) shot 3-4 from the floor including 2-2 from the three-point land. She finished with eight points and three rebounds. Junior Kate Callahan (Bridgton, Maine) registered six points and four rebounds in the win.
The Chargers wrap up their five game home stand with a contest against Curry on Wednesday, January 21 at 5:30 p.m.
