NASHUA, N.H. - November 22, 2008 - With a first half that boasted four lead changes and three ties, it was easy to see that this match was shaping up to go down to the wire. Colby-Sawyer went to the half with the slight 28-26 margin, but the lead changes and ties kept coming in the early part of the second.
Rivier senior Felipe Lima tied the game with a layup with 14:05 left in the second and the Raiders never trailed again. Every time the Chargers got close or tied the game, Rivier answered right back to retake the lead. With just over two minutes left in the game the Raiders Kevin Harrington drained a three pointer to put Rivier on top to stay. Although Colby-Sawyer did their best to foul and make Rivier hit their foul shots in the end, Rivier was up to the task going 5 of 6 down the home stretch from the free throw line.
Rivier's trio of senior captains stepped up big in the championship game as Felipe Lima led the way for the Raiders with 19 points on an 8-12 shooting day and 5 rebounds. Kevin Harrington and Lance Bisson added 13 and 12 points respectively. The Chargers were led by Duncan Szeliga who scored 18 points for Colby-Sawyer in the losing effort.
Szeliga needed just 21 points entering the weekend to surpass the 1000 career point mark. With seven points on Friday and 18 tonight, he becomes the newest men's basketball player at Colby-Sawyer to reach the 1000 point plateau.
