Foti completed his 28th season in 2019-20. Foti has established the men’s basketball program as one of the premier teams in the New England region. Coach Foti ranks among the all-time coaching leaders in the nation, and has guided the program to double-digit win totals in each of his 28 seasons, including nine 20 plus win seasons.
Under Coach Foti’s direction, Colby-Sawyer has claimed four conference championships and the subsequent automatic bids to the NCAA tournament. He has also guided the Chargers to nine Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament appearances, winning the New England Championship after the 1997-98 season.
Coach Foti, who has earned five conference Coach of the Year awards, earned his 300th career win over Western New England College, on February 23, 2008 and his 400th win on December 13, 2014 over Lyndon. He has led the Chargers to victory in 65.2 percent of their games(486-259), a percentage that ranks him in the top-40 all-time among active Division III coaches. His 486 wins ranks him 22nd among active D3 coaches.
In 1992-93, his first season at Colby-Sawyer, Coach Foti led the Chargers to a 16-9 mark, a 10-win turnaround from the previous season. The improvement was the largest turnaround in the New England region and the third largest turnaround in the nation that year.
In addition to the team accolades, individual players have found success under Coach Foti’s direction. During his tenure, Colby-Sawyer has produced two All-Americans (Hall of Fame members T.J. Gondek ‘95 and Andrew St. Clair ‘06), two Academic All-Americans (Brendan Carney ‘02, St. Clair ‘05 and ‘06) four NABC All-Northeast District players (Gondek, Jim McGilvery, Matt George and St. Clair) and seven ECAC All-Stars (Gondek, McGilvery, George, St. Clair, Brian Wilder, Grant Kelly and Peter Donato). In addition, McGilvery, George, St. Clair and 2013 graduate Paul Holland have gone on to play professionally in England. George, McGilvery, Ethan Casson '96, James Durrell '94, Calen Paquette '03, Marc Ferlo '99, Brian Wilder '99 and the 1997-98 Team have also been inducted into the Colby-Sawyer Athletics Hall of Fame.
Prior to his arrival in New London, Coach Foti spent six years as an assistant coach at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, where he earned his masters degree in business administration. While at SNHU, the Penmen advanced to the NCAA Division II tournament three times. Coach Foti graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1986 with a B.A. in political science.
