NAC Announces Winter/Spring All-Academic Awards

NEW LONDON, N.H. – June 1, 2015 – Eight Colby-Sawyer student-athletes have been named to the 2014-15 Winter/Spring North Atlantic Conference (NAC) All-Academic team.

One Hundred North Atlantic Conference student-athletes who participated in a winter/spring conference sport received recognition. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached junior academic standing, have competed a minimum two years of varsity competition at their institution with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50.

Senior Kelsey Cahill (Cumberland, R.I.) of the women's basketball team earned her second straight NAC All-Academic award. Cahill was named NAC Defensive Player of the Year and was an All-NAC Second Team selection in the winter after leading the Chargers in scoring (12.0 ppg.), steals (74) and blocks (42). Cahill also earned the Wynne Jesser McGrew Senior Scholar-Athlete Award at this year's Colby-Sawyer Athletics Banquet.

Senior Justin Pinard (Essex, Vt.) and junior Julius Graefe (East Longmeadow, Mass.) of the men's tennis team were also honored. Pinard, who was named to the All-NAC Doubles Second Team, earned his second NAC All-Academic award.

Juniors Sara Berry (Bowdoinham, Maine) and Sarah Harlow (Putney, Vt.) of the women's lacrosse team were honored for the first time. Berry was named to the All-NAC second team after leading the Chargers with 33 caused turnovers, ranking her 25th in the nation with 2.54 per game.

In the first year the conference has sponsored women's outdoor track and field, juniors Becca Hashem (Webster, N.H.) and Courtney Figucia (Wilmington, Mass.) were named NAC All-Academic. Hashem qualified to compete in the New England Championship in the discus and hammer. She finished 10th in the discus. Figucia qualified for New England's as a member of the 4x400 relay team. The team placed 12th and set a school record with a time of 4:08.71 to beat the previous mark by nearly six seconds.

Senior TJ O'Connor (Bethel, Maine) of the baseball team garnered his second straight NAC All-Academic award.
