Thirteen Chargers Named to TCCC All-Academic Teams

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - May 28, 2010 – Thirteen Colby-Sawyer athletes were named to the Academic All-Conference Team, as announced by The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Commissioner Gregg Kaye. A total of 374 student-athletes were honored and all 14 institutions in The Commonwealth Coast Conference were represented on the Academic All-Conference Team.

The Academic All-Conference Team consists of any starter or significant reserve who has attained at least sophomore status and has maintained an overall minimum GPA of 3.50 on a scale of 4.00. Only members of sports teams in which the conference sponsors a championship are eligible for this team.

Baseball

Junior Evan Leary (Concord, N.H.) battled injury this season, but appeared in and started in 15 games. He recorded nine hits, while scoring eight times. Evan was a perfect 3-3 on stolen base attempts. 

Women's Basketball

Senior Amy Hebert (Keene, N.H.) started in all 26 games for the Chargers this year. She shot 87% from the free throw line and finished her career with 69 three-pointers, which is 10th all-time. She has been named to the All-Academic team all three years. Amy was the recipient of the Wynn Jesser McGrew Scholar-Athlete Award, given annually to a graduating female senior who has made significant contributions to both the scholastic and varsity programs of the College.

Junior Katelyn Stravinsky (Norwell, Mass.) played in 24 games, averaged 3.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Stravinsky was second on the team in blocks with 12, including a career-high four blocks versus Curry College on January 19. She was named to the All-Academic team last year. 

Women's Cross Country

Junior Amber Cronin (Buxton, Maine) and sophomore Tanis Fico (Walpole, N.H.) were named to the All-Academic team in the Colby-Sawyer cross country's inaugural varsity season.

Women's Lacrosse 

Sophomore Lyndsay French (Ipswich, Mass.) started in 12 of her 15 appearances this season. She recorded the fourth most points on the team with 23 (14 goals, 9 assists).

Junior Katherine Lee (Clinton, N.Y.) saw action in 13 of the team's 17 contests this season. She compiled three goals and two assists. Katherine also was named to the All-Academic team last year.

Junior Deb MacEachern (Billerica, Mass.) played in all 17 games, while earning the start 15 times. Deb also was named to the All-Academic team last year.

Men's Soccer

Sophomore Derek Veilleux (Winslow, Maine) appeared and started in 17 games while patrolling the midfield.

Men's Swimming & Diving

Senior Ryan Martin (Chester, N.H.) received the Male Senior Scholar-Athlete Award, given to a graduating senior who has made significant contributions to both the scholastic and varsity programs at the College. He graduates with five school records in the pool. Ryan also was named to the All-Academic team last season.

Senior Dave Mikita (Ansonia, Conn.) competed in the one meter and three meter diving events throughout the year. Dave also was named to the All-Academic team last season. 

Sophomore Owen Worden (New Bedford, Mass.) primarily competed in freestyle events this season. In his freshman year, Owen was part of the 400 free relay team that set the school record in a time of 3:25.34. 

Women's Tennis

Senior Jen LaChance (Killingworth, Conn.) guided the women's tennis team to their first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament this season. She was All-TCCC Honorable Mention for Singles and All-TCCC Second Team with doubles partner Hannah White. In an early season match with Roger Williams, LaChance became Colby-Sawyer's all-time leader in career victories surpassing the 88 victories of Lori Monroe '97. She completed her senior season with a 10-5 singles record and a 13-6 doubles record. LaChance finishes her career with a total of 107 victories and records of 53-15 in singles and 54-15 in doubles, which are both school records. LaChance was named to the All-Academic team last season.

Women's Track & Field

Junior Amber Cronin (Buxton, Maine) had a solid season with the track and field team this year. One of her season highlights include a second place at the TCCC Invitational in the long jump. Amber was named to the All-Academic team last season.
