April 12, 2010 – The Colby-Sawyer women's track & field team began its weekend by competing at the Eastern Connecticut State Invitational on Friday. The team then competed on Saturday at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by the University of New Hampshire. 

Sophomore Kristin Sawyer (Walpole, Mass.) got the Chargers off to a great start at the ECSU Invitational by winning the first event. She had a distance of 9.56m en route to the shot put victory. She then finished second in the hammer with a new school record of 33.17m and third in the discus (25.85m). 

Freshman Danielle Perry (Charlestown, N.H.) also performed well with a second place finish in the 100 meter dash (13.90) and a fifth place in the 200 meter dash (29.12). 

The UNH Wildcat Invitational featured tough competition from the northeast. Nevertheless, several Chargers performed well and qualified for the New England Championships that take place at the end of the month at Tufts University. 

Freshman Melody Owens (Tyler, Texas) was the first Charger to qualify for New England's in the shot put with a distance of 11.03m. She placed second in the event behind Kathryn early of UNH who had a distance of 11.04m. 

Kristin Sawyer also qualified for New England's in the shot put by placing fifth with a distance of 10.62m. 

Danielle Perry and senior Caitlin Pond (Westborough, Mass.) each surpassed the heptathlon qualifying standard of 2700 points to also compete at the New England Championships. Pond recorded 2783 points over the weekend after competing in events at both meets. Perry did the same and recorded 2952 points to earn her trip to Tufts. 

Members of the team will compete at the Middlebury Decathlon/Heptathlon meet on Friday. The entire team will be at the Middlebury Invitational on Saturday.
