Emily Dewdney

Emily Dewdney is the head coach of both the Colby-Sawyer field hockey and women's lacrosse programs.

Dewdney has brought success to both programs and leads both programs in career win percentage (.680 Field Hockey) (.610 Women's Lacrosse).

Field Hockey

Emily Dewdney enters year six at Colby-Sawyer College as the head coach of the field hockey program and is the second coach in program history.  Dewdney also continues to be the women's lacrosse coach at Colby-Sawyer heading into her seventh year in 2024-25. 

The Chargers made it back to the GNAC Championship in 2023 after a 14-5 record and a 9-3 GNAC record. Colby-Sawyer advanced to the championship after defeating Rivier in the GNAC Quarterfinals and upsetting Lasell in the GNAC Semifinals. The Chargers would eventually fall to Johnson & Wales in the GNAC Championship game. This year Dewdney surpassed 50 career wins for Colby-Sawyer. Emily coached seven GNAC All-Conference selections, three NFHCA Scholars of Distinction and four CSC Academic All-District members. 

In 2022, the Chargers had another successful season going 13-6 overall including a 8-3 GNAC record. Colby-Sawyer finished the year in the GNAC Semi-Finals after defeating Rivier University in the first round before falling to eventual GNAC Champion Johnson & Wales University.

In 2021, Dewdney led the Chargers into the best season in program history finishing the season with a 16-4 overall record and finishing as the GNAC regular season champion and GNAC runner up. Dewdney was also named the GNAC Coach of the Year in 2021 for her record-setting season.

Under her direction, six student-athlete has been named to the All-GNAC First Team, six to the All-GNAC Second Team, four to the All-GNAC Third Team and 48 have earned NFHCA National Academic Team honors (six were NFHCA Honors of Distinction). 

Prior to being named the head coach in 2019, Dewdney  spent the previous eight seasons as an assistant coach for the field hockey and women's lacrosse programs at Colby-Sawyer. Dewdney was an integral part of the early years of the field hockey program, helping to raise the club team to varsity status and now transform the program into a  
consistent GNAC Championship contender. 
 

Women's Lacrosse 

Emily Dewdney enters her fifth season at Colby-Sawyer College as the head coach of the women's lacrosse program and is the fourteenth coach in program history.

In 2024, the women's lacrosse program had a record year ending the season with a program-record 13 win season. Colby-Sawyer ended the year 13-5 overall and a GNAC record of 8-3. Under Dewdney the Chargers won their first ever GNAC playoff game defeating the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) in the GNAC Quarterfinals before falling in the GNAC Semifinals to Emmanuel. At the end of the year a program-best 10 members made the GNAC All-Conference team while Dewdney also helped get the first IWLCA All-Region team selection in program history. 

Colby-Sawyer finished 2023 with a record of 10-8 with a 8-5 GNAC record. The Chargers fell in the GNAC Quarterfinals to Emmanuel. Under Dewdney the Chargers had seven GNAC All-Conference members including the GNAC Midfielder of the Year. 

In 2022, Dewdney led the a young Chargers group to the best start in program history winning the first eight games of the season. The Chargers ended the year at 11-6, falling in the GNAC Quarterfinals. Under her direction this season, Dewdney had a member of each of the GNAC All-Conference teams, while also having three student-athletes making the GNAC All-Rookie team and the GNAC Rookie of the Year. 

Prior to her first full-time head coaching gig with the women's lacrosse team in 2020, Dewdney spent 2018 at the helm after Emily Rinde-Thorsen went on a one-year sabbatical.  Dewdney led the Chargers to a 10-6 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the conference to earn the NAC Tournament's second seed in 2018. The Chargers appeared in the conference championship for just the third time in program history. Dewdney was named NAC Coach of the Year after guiding the team to a very successful 2018 campaign. She coached the NAC Player of the Year (Nicole Lavigne), the NAC Rookie of the Year (Briana Couture) and the NAC Defensive Player of the Year (Kailyn Lapham).  

Dewdney also served as an assistant coach for eight years with the program. 
 
Dewdney is a 2010 graduate of Allegheny College with a Bachelor's in Women's Studies, Dewdney played four years for the women's lacrosse team, which was regionally ranked. She earned NCAC First-Team accolades as one of the league's top defenders.

Dewdney, who is a certified personal trainer, lives in Sunapee with her husband Tyler, daughter Thea and two australian shepherds Dempsey and Fisher. The New London, N.H. native is also a graduate of nearby Kimball Union Academy.Â
