Jim Broughton has served as head coach of the Colby-Sawyer baseball program for each of the 25 seasons of the team’s existence, leading the Chargers to 346 all-time wins.
Coach Broughton was named North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Coach of the Year in 2016.
Under his direction, the Chargers captured The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) titles in 1998 and 1999 and were the runners-up in 2000. He was TCCC Coach of the Year in both of the championship years and took the 1999 squad to the ECAC Division III New England Tournament.
Five individuals and one team coached by Broughton has been inducted into the Colby-Sawyer Athletic Hall of Fame. Tyler Blout '99 (2006), Chris Cabe '00 (2008), Tom White '09 (2014), Jon Nicholas '05 (2015), 1999 Team (2016), and Shawn Herlihy '01 (2018)
Coach Broughton came to New London following two seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Southern Maine. He was a four-year starter for the Huskies and an All-American in both 1991 and 1992. His teams made three trips to the NCAA Division III College World Series, winning the national championship in 1991.
He graduated from Southern Maine in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in History, while minoring in Elementary Education.
In the fall of 2003, Coach Broughton was inducted into the University of Southern Maine’s Hall of Fame for his efforts on the baseball field. He still ranks in the top 15 in several offensive categories including games played, at bats, runs scored, hits, doubles, triples, runs batted in, total bases, walks and stolen bases.
Coach Broughton and his wife, Andrea, live in Grantham, N.H. with their two children, Emily and Caleb.

White, a 2009 Colby-Sawyer graduate and 2014 Hall of Fame inductee, returns to his alma mater after spending the past five seasons as the Lyndon State baseball head coach.
The 2017 NAC Coach of the Year led the Hornets to three postseason appearances.
White was two-sport star at Colby-Sawyer, Tom boasted the athletic ability and a competitive spirit that few could match: he played four years for the baseball and soccer teams during his career. Tom is known as one of the best baseball players to take the field for Colby-Sawyer. At the time of induction, Tom ranked first in games played (141), at-bats (464), and doubles (39). He also ranked second in hits (164), on base percentage (.450), runs scored (119), stolen bases (40) and saves (4). Tom collected 133 RBIs, 270 total bases, and hit .353, which ranks him third all-time in each category. Tom also earned several awards. He was named Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Year, twice named to the All-CCC First Team and once to the All-CCC Second Team. Tom is one of three Chargers named a New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-New England player and NEIBA All-Star game player. Tom was instrumental in leading the men's soccer program to its first Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) appearance. His dedication, knowledge, and poise under pressure made him one of the toughest defenders in the conference. In 2009, Tom earned the Charger Award for the Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year.
