SOFTBALL FALLS TO SIMMONS

Brighton, MA – The Chargers traveled to take on Simmons on Friday for a GNAC doubleheader. 

Game 1 Rapid Recap: 

  • Emma Baker (Seekonk, MA) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Piper Kinney was the starting pitcher for the Sharks. 

  • Abigail Carvalho scored for the Sharks in the 1st inning. 

  • Teagan Buckley hit an RBI single into left field for Simmons in the 5th inning. Emery Kreidel-Reimer scored for the Sharks. Emma Soule hit a 2 RBI triple for Simmons. 

  • The Sharks added two runs in the 6th inning. The Sharks won the first game 7-0. 

Game 1 Inside the Numbers: 

  • Baker and Mallory Blackwell (Fleming Island, FL) both pitched for the Chargers. 

  • Kaylee Scott (Virginia Beach, VA) and Blackwell were both 1-3 from the plate for the Chargers. 

  • Soule was 2-2 from the plate for the Sharks. 

  • This was Baker's sixth pitching start of the season. 

Game 2 Rapid Recap: 

  • Lena Rodrgiues (Belmont, NH) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Trinity Payne was the starting pitcher for the Sharks. 

  • Rodrigues scored the first run of the game for the Chargers in the top of the 1st inning. Scott hit an RBI double into right center field, and Baker hit an RBI single up the middle. The Chargers led 3-0. 

  • Carvalho hit an RBI single for the Sharks in the bottom of the 1st. Carvalho scored, and Buckley hit an RBI single. 

  • Kinney scored in the 2nd inning for the Sharks to give the hosts a 4-3 lead. 

  • Buckley hit an RBI triple for the Sharks in the 3rd. Payne hit an RBI sac fly. 

  • Carvalho hit an RBI double in the 5th for Simmons. The Sharks added four runs in the 6th inning. 

  • Simmons won the second game 11-3. 

Game 2 Inside the Numbers: 

  • Rodrigues and Blackwell both pitched for the Chargers. 

  • Scott and Baker were both 2-3 from the plate. 

  • Carvalho was 3-3 from the plate for the Sharks. 

  • Rodrigues ended the game with two stolen bases. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers will play their final games of the regular season on Saturday, when they travel to Chicopee, Massachusetts to play against Elms for a doubleheader.
