SOFTBALL CAPS INAUGURAL SEASON WITH PROGRAMS FIRST SWEEP

Chicopee, MA – The Colby-Sawyer Softball team concluded their inaugural season on Saturday in a GNAC doubleheader against the Elms Blazers. 

Game 1 Rapid Recap: 

  • Mallory Blackwell (Fleming Island, FL) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Reece Hebert was the starting pitcher for the Blazers. 

  • Kyla Angell (North Providence, RI) hit an RBI sac fly in the top of the 1st to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead. Kaylee Scott (Virginia Beach, VA) hit an RBI double to give the Chargers a two-run lead. 

  • Angell hit a home run in the 3rd inning to make it a 3-0 scoreline for the Chargers. 

  • Caity Flynn scored a run for Elms in the 7th. Amanda Raymond hit an RBI triple for Elms. 

  • The Chargers won the first game 3-2. 

Game 1 Inside the Numbers: 

  • Blackwell pitched the whole game for the Chargers and threw a season-high 10 strikeouts. 

  • Jill Dykema was 2-3 from the plate for the Blazers. 

  • The Chargers combined for eight hits. 

Game 2 Rapid Recap: 

  • Baker was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Kaelyn Zakaitis was the starting pitcher for the Blazers. 

  • Nyah Colon earned an RBI for the Blazers in the bottom of the 2nd to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. 

  • In the 3rd inning, Kyla Angell hit an RBI single for the Chargers to tie the game up. Two at bats later, Blackwell hit a 2 RBI single to give the Chargers a 3-1 lead. Julia Hoag (Merrimack, NH) hit an RBI single for the Chargers. The Chargers led 4-1 after the top of the 3rd. 

  • Scott hit an RBI double for the Chargers in the 4th. 

  • The Chargers won the second game 5-1. 

Game 2 Inside the Numbers: 

  • Baker and Blackwell both pitched for the Chargers. 

  • Blackwell was 2-4 from the plate. 

  • Zakaitis was 2-4 from the plate for the Blazers. 

  • The Chargers combined for six hits.
