BASEBALL OPENS WEEKEND WITH GNAC SWEEP

New London, NH – The Chargers hosted a GNAC doubleheader against Albertus Magnus on Saturday. Simon Keary (Penacook, NH) and Mike Hogan (Piermont, NH) both earned wins on the mound as the Chargers went 2-0 on the day. 

Game 1 Rapid Recap: 

  • Micah McMannus (Beverly, MA) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers, and Justin Feinstein was the starting pitcher for the Falcons. 

  • Eric Galarza scored the first run of the game for the Falcons in the top of the 3rd inning. Jesse Chaves (Taunton, MA) hit an RBI single for the Chargers to tie the game up in the bottom of the inning. 

  • Chaves hit another RBI single in the 4th to give the Chargers their first lead of the game. Noah Staffier (Beverly, MA) earned an RBI as Chaves scored. Three more Chargers scored in the inning, as Devin Montalvo (Coram, NY) hit a 2 RBI single, and Sean Roeger (Salem, NH) scored a run. 

  • Joey O'Hara scored a four-run home run in the 5th for the Falcons, to tie the game up 5-5. In the bottom of the 5th, Dylan Watson (Byfield, MA) scored for the Chargers to take a 6-5 lead. Chaves hit a 2 RBI single to bring the lead to three runs. Montalvo continued the scoring streak for the Chargers with an RBI single. Eric Galarza hit an Albertus Magnus RBI single in the 6th. 

  • The Chargers won Game 1, 9-6. 

Game 1 Inside the Numbers: 

  • McMannus, Keary, and Jared Schmitt (Surry, NH) all pitched for the Chargers in Game 1. Keary earned the win, and Schmitt earned the save. 

  • Chaves was 4-5 from the plate and earned 4 RBIs. Evan Dennis (East Ryegate, VT) had three hits and Montalvo had two hits. 

  • Galarza was 2-3 from the plate for the Falcons. 

  • The Chargers combined for 13 hits. 

Game 2 Rapid Recap: 

  • Hogan started on the mound for the Chargers, and Nathan Rivera started on the mound for the Falcons. 

  • Galarza and Noah Grosso earned RBIs for the Falcons in the 1st inning. Chaves hit a 2 RBI double for Colby-Sawyer in the 1st. The Chargers continued to score in the inning as McLeer scored a run, Staffier hit an RBI single, Montalvo hit an RBI double, Janai Cruz (Manchester, NH) hit an RBI fly out, and Watson hit an RBI single. The Chargers led 7-2 after the 1st. McLeer stole home in the 2nd inning. In the 3rd inning, Watson hit an RBI single, Watson scored, and Chaves hit an RBI double. The Chargers led 11-2. 

  • Nick Ramos scored for Albertus Magnus in the 4th. In the bottom of the inning, Cruz and Watson both earned RBIs for the Chargers. 

  • The Chargers scored five runs in the 5th and 6th innings. The Chargers won the game 18-3. 

Game 2 Inside the Numbers: 

  • Hogan and Hayden Goerlich (Amherst, NH) pitched for the Chargers in game 2. Hogan earned the win. 

  • Watson, Chaves, and Cruz each had three hits in game 2. 

  • Adriel Espada was 2-2 from the plate for the Falcons. 

  • The Chargers combined for 19 hits. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers play a doubleheader against Rivier at Kelsey Baseball Field on Sunday with the first game starting at 12pm.
