New London, NH – The Chargers won 16-5 against New England College on Tuesday night, as Rose Finlayson (Hopkinton, NH) reached the 100 career goals mark.
Rapid Recap:
· At the 7:40 mark in the first quarter, Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, NH) (assisted by Reese Holcomb (Essex Junction, VT)) scored the first goal of the game to put the Chargers up by one. Madeline Knight (Pownal, ME) scored the goal to put the Chargers up by two. With 3:49 to go in the quarter, Grace Joly (Windham, ME) assisted Finlayson's 100th career goal. Knight and Elena Bronson (Monkton, VT) each scored before the end of the quarter to give the Chargers a 5-0 lead.
· Alexis Hornsby assisted a Riley Davis goal for New England College in the second quarter. Less than a minute later, Sydney Bailey assisted Camryn Coutts for the Pilgrims. Lauren Vignola (Ringwood, NJ) and Bronson each scored for the Chargers to give Colby-Sawyer a 7-2 lead going into the halftime break.
· Two-and-a-half minutes into the third quarter, Vignola scored for the Chargers. The Pilgrims scored soon afterwards with a Davis goal from Hornsby. Vignola's third goal of the game, came with 6:16 to go into quarter. Hornsby scored for the Pilgrims, which would be the last goal of the quarter.
· About 30 seconds into the quarter, Finlayson scored for the Chargers to give the Chargers a 9-2 lead. Carmela Goodwin assisted Davis for a Pilgrim goal. Knight, Vignola (assisted by Finlayson), Joly, and Finlayson (assisted by Ponzini) each scored a Charger goal before five minutes were left in the game. Vignola and Finlayson each scored a goal for Colby-Sawyer at the end of the game. The Chargers won 16-5.
Inside the Numbers:
· Finlayson scored four goals on Tuesday to surpass the 100-career goal mark. The junior has 103 goals in her career, 24 goals this season.
· Vignola scored five goals, and Bronson scored three goals.
· Ponzini led the team in ground balls (5), and Brooke Farquhar (Gorham, ME) led the team in caused turnovers (5). Addison Glavin (Andover, MA) made four saves in the win.
· Davis scored three goals for the Pilgrims.
· The Chargers won 20 ground balls.
