BASEBALL PICKS UP FIRST CONFERENCE WIN OF THE SEASON OVER DEAN

Franklin, MA – The Chargers traveled to Dean College on Sunday to take on the Bulldogs to open GNAC conference play. The Chargers scored four home runs in the 21-2 win. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • Micah McMannus (Beverly, MA) was the starting pitcher for the Chargers. Tyler Giambra was the starting pitcher for the Bulldogs.  

  • In the second inning, a run from Sean Roeger (Salem, NH) put the Chargers up by one. With runners on first and third, Jacob Putnam (North Haverhill, NH) hit a three-run home run to put the Chargers ahead 4-0. In the third inning, Jesse Chaves (Taunton, MA) scored and Devin Montalvo (Coram, NY) hit an RBI sac fly. In the top of the fourth inning, Dylan Watson (Byfield, MA) scored for the Chargers followed by a three-run home run from Mike McLeer (Saco, ME). Noah Staffier (Beverly, MA) hit an RBI sac fly later in the inning for Colby-Sawyer. Nick Amendolara hit a home run for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the fourth inning. 

  • The Chargers scored three runs in the fifth inning. Roeger and Montalvo each earned an RBI in the inning. In the seventh inning, McLeer hit his second home run of the game. Mike Krouse (Peabody, MA) hit a three-run home run in his first at bat of the season. Finn MacLennan (Ipswich, MA) hit a 2 RBI single in the inning, followed by an RBI single from Connor Fowler (Hampton Falls, NH). Spencer Lichstrahl hit a home run for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Chargers won the game 21-2 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • McMannus pitched five innings and threw five strikeouts. After Sunday, McMannus has an ERA of 0.56. Anthony DeMarco (Danielson, CT) pitched two innings for the Chargers and threw three strikeouts. 

  • McLeer was 4-4 from the plate and hit two home runs. McLeer is now tied for third in program history for single-game home runs. Montalvo was 3-3 from the plate and hit two doubles. 

  • Amendolara was 2-2 from the plate for Dean College. 

  • The Chargers combined for 13 hits on the day. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers will head back to Dean on Wednesday to finish the doubleheader before Saturday where the Chargers will play Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut for a double header.
