CASTLETON, Vt. – The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team rallied from a late fifth-set deficit on Wednesday evening, edging Vermont State University Castleton, 3-2 (23-25, 26-24, 13-25, 25-23, 15-12), in non-conference action at Glenbrook Gymnasium.

The Spartans took a tight opening frame behind an eight-ace serving effort, holding off a late Charger push to capture the set, 25-23.

Colby-Sawyer leveled the match in an evenly contested second set that featured 14 ties and eight lead changes. Trailing 24-23, sophomore Claire Rocky (Sherman, Conn.) delivered a clutch kill from senior Bree Bacon (Brookline, Mass.) before junior Kamryn Brakemeier (Keler, Texas) put down the frame-winner to secure the 26-24 equalizer.

Castleton answered in the third stanza, riding a 13-0 run from the service line to claim a 25-13 decision and take a 2-1 match lead.

The Chargers dug deep in the fourth set to keep the match alive. Locked in a 23-23 deadlock, sophomore Addison Sasnett (Virginia Beach, VA.) delivered back-to-back kills off sets from Bacon to force a deciding fifth frame with a 25-23 win.

After falling behind 12-10 in the fifth, Colby-Sawyer mounted a match-ending 5-0 surge. Following a Spartan service error, sophomore Maggie Wilder (North Yarmouth, Maine) sparked the turnaround with an overpass kill, and Castleton committed consecutive hitting errors before Sasnett put down match point at 15-12 to complete the comeback.

Sasnett led the Chargers' offense with a career-high 14 kills on 38 attempts, including the final kill in both the fourth and fifth sets.

Brakemeier and Rocky recorded 10 kills apiece, with Rocky hitting .318 and Brakemeier chipping in two aces, two assists, and five digs.

Bacon orchestrated the attack with 32 assists and recorded a double-double with 15 digs and four kills.

First-year Liv Chandonnait (Belmont, N.H.) anchored the back row with a team-leading 17 digs, while first-year Lucy Denu (Derry, N.H.) contributed 13 digs and two aces.

Junior Madison Sinatro (Simsbury, Conn.) recorded 11 digs, two aces, and three assists.

The Chargers held an advantage in total digs (96-80) and total kills (48-47), while limiting their own errors in the final set to hit .263.
