WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS HOME TRI-MATCH

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team enjoyed a dominant Saturday on its home floor, sweeping Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Dean College 3-0 before turning around to defeat Framingham State University 3-1 in non-conference action at the Dan and Kathleen Hogan Sports Center.

MATCH 1: (25-16, 25-14, 25-23)

Colby-Sawyer controlled the opening match of the day from the opening serve, using explosive offense and steady serving to sweep the Bulldogs in straight sets.

  • Set 1: Senior Bree Bacon (Brookline, Mass.) sparked a quick 4-0 lead with back-to-back aces. The Chargers hit .387 as a unit, putting down 14 kills to pull away for a 25-16 victory capped by a kill from junior Brooke Tasker (Wolfeboro, N.H.).

  • Set 2: First-year Lucy Denu (Derry, N.H.) took over the service line midway through the frame, delivering four aces in a 6-0 run to give Colby-Sawyer complete control on the way to a 25-14 win on .531 team hitting.

  • Set 3: Dean mounted a furious rally, leading by as many as five points late in the frame. Trailing 23-21, senior Alexis Mandrino (Dunbarton, N.H.) served up an ace and set up first-year Kaity Kelly (Newfields, N.H.) for a kill to draw within striking distance before junior Madison Sinatro (Simsbury, Conn.) served out the final three points to seal the 25-23 comeback.

Inside the Numbers (Dean):

  • Sophomore Addison Sasnett (Virginia Beach, VA.) led the attack with eight kills on just 13 swings (.615 hitting percentage).

  • Junior Kamryn Brakemeier (Keller, Texas) and first-year Haley Arp (Englewood, Fla.) each recorded seven kills.

  • Bacon dished out 19 assists to go along with three service aces.

  • Denu tallied a match-best four service aces while dishing out five assists.

  • Tasker anchored the front line with two blocks and two kills.

  • Sinatro collected a team-high eight digs, while first-year Liv Chandonnait added six digs.

MATCH 2: (25-12, 22-25, 25-19, 25-20)

The Chargers carried their momentum directly into the afternoon finale, registering 18 service aces and 48 kills to turn back a 10-win Rams squad in four sets.

  • Set 1: Colby-Sawyer put on a serving clinic to open the match, receiving four aces from sophomore Maggie Wilder (North Yarmouth, Maine) and two from Sinatro during a 16-3 surge to take the opening set in commanding fashion, 25-12.

  • Set 2: Framingham State responded with strong net play from Natalie Reynolds and Mckenzie Kastner, holding off a late Charger push to level the match with a 25-22 decision.

  • Set 3: The Chargers answered back behind an efficient attack. With the score tied at 19-19, Brakemeier served out the final six consecutive points, including two aces, to close out a 25-19 win.

  • Set 4: After trading leads throughout the fourth frame, Colby-Sawyer broke a 20-20 deadlock. Chandonnait and Sasnett delivered back-to-back kills, and Sinatro served up an ace before assisting Chandonnait on match point to secure the 25-20 triumph.

Inside the Numbers (Framingham St.):

  • Brakemeier posted a team-high 12 kills, four service aces, four digs, and a block.

  • Arp reached double-figure kills for the second time in three matches, terminating 10 attacks while hitting .357.

  • Chandonnait notched eight kills and eight digs, while sophomore Claire Rocky dominated the net with five blocks and five kills.

  • Bacon ran the offense with 34 assists, four kills, and an ace.

  • Sinatro recorded a match-high 16 digs to go along with five service aces and three assists.

  • Wilder chipped in four service aces and five digs.

  • Colby-Sawyer held decisive advantages in points (72.0 to 46.0), kills (48 to 33), aces (18 to 11), blocks (6 to 2), and digs (54 to 40).

The Chargers (5-11, 2-3 GNAC) hit the road again on Wednesday, October 7, traveling to Castleton, VT. to face VTSU Castleton with first serve set for 7:00 PM.
