PONZINI KEEPS GNAC STREAK ALIVE WITH OVETIME WINNER

NEWTON, MASS. - The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team traveled to Lasell University for their third conference matchup of the year in hopes to keep their two game streak alive. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Lasers and Chargers would go back and forth defensively before Lasell opened the games scoring from Brooklyn Northcutt from teammate Jacquelyn Scopa.
  • Both teams would keep the other scoreless in the whole second quarter. The Chargers would put themselves into the game just 58 seconds into the third quarter thanks to Brooke Farquhar (Gorham, Maine) who scored the team's first game. Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) would follow and put the Chargers up 2-1 just six minutes later, give Colby-Sawyer the edge. The Chargers would take a 3-1 advantage on another Farquhar goal that came from Reese Holcomb (Essex Junction, Vt.) who would earn her first collegiate assist. 
  • The Lasers would come back themselves with two goals in the fourth quarter to tie the game. Both goals would come from Brooklyn Northcutt with one of the goals coming from Mara Boldy. 
  • The Chargers would score the game winner in overtime from Cecilia Ponzini off an assist from Farquhar to give the Chargers there third straight GNAC win.
Inside the Numbers: 
  • Ponzini's two goals would help her reach 50 career points, while also tallying her fifth goal of the year.
  • Farquhar would have her second straight game with two goals, while she brought her tally to six on the year.
  • Goalkeeper Ashlee Blashock (Lebanon, N.H.) would total 7 saves in net, bringing her season total to 64.

The Chargers will host Simmons University as they look to stay unbeaten in conference play on September 27th with a 12pm start.
