CHARGERS BATTLE HARD IN 3-2 LOSS AGAINST CASTLETON

New London N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team hosted the Vermont State Castleton Spartans in non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon. 

Rapid Recap: 

  • Halfway through the first quarter Brooke Farquhar (Gorham, Maine) gave the Chargers an early lead off an assist from Jillian Fredette (Weare, N.H.) and Luci Walden (Bellingham, Mass.). Goalkeeper Ashlee Blashock (Lebanon, N.H.) would make 4 saves for the Chargers in the first quarter as the Chargers would finish the quarter up 1-0. 

  • Gwyn Vincent would score at the end of the second quarter and at the beginning of the third quarter to put the Spartans up 2-1. 

  • The Chargers continued to battle, and two minutes into the fourth quarter it would be Cecilia Ponzini (Windham, N.H.) to even the game up at 2-2. Ponzini's goal was assisted by Fredette and Ava Bennett (Hampstead, N.H.). 

  • About a minute later, Vincent would put the Spartans up 3-2 off a Peyton Richardson assist. 

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Paige Trombly (Hartford, VT) made her first collegiate start Wednesday afternoon. 

  • Blashock finished the match at 11 saves, putting her season total at 45. 

  • Fredette had two assists on the day, putting her at a total of 8 points for the season so far. 

Up Next: 

The Chargers go back to conference play when they host the University of Saint Joseph's (Conn.) for a 12pm start at Sally Shaw Veitch Field on Saturday.
