NEW LONDON, NH. - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team dropped their first game of the season against the Eagles of Husson University on Saturday afternoon.
Rapid Recap:
- The scoring would get off to a quick start as the Eagles would find the back of the net early in the 11th minute from Addi Laslie, assisted by Devon St. Louis, and Kendra Donahue. The Chargers would try to respond by getting two corner kicks in the 15th minute back to back that the Eagles defense stopped. Gabriela Calidonio (Flagler Beach, Fla.) would be tested again, just a day after her Charger career high in saves. Calidonio would face three shots in three minutes of play as she saved each one.
- The Eagles would score their second goal of the game on a shot by Hailey Tarbox assisted by Rylee Speed that put the Chargers down 2-0 going into half.
- The second half saw the Chargers putting together more opportunities to try and get back into the game. It was, however, the defensive line led by Sophie Nadeau (Hampton, N.H.) and Lena Rodrigues (Belmont, N.H.) that kept the Eagles from getting more shots off. The Eagles would get their third goal of the game in the 59th minute from Paige Dunn. The Eagles would go on to put two more goals into the net in the 84th and 86th minutes to secure their win. The Chargers would add some pressure on the offensive end throughout the game, but the defense from the Eagles would always get in the way at the right time.
Inside the Numbers:
- The Chargers would have three goalkeepers split responsibilities in net between Calidonio, Sophomore Lyndsey Valletta (Macedon, N.Y.), and Sophomore Aurora Proulx (Sheldon, Vt.). Gabriela would play the whole first half with 6 saves, while Valletta tallied 26 minutes, and Proulx tallied 19 minutes, and 1 save.
Up Next:
The Chargers will get some time to rest and recover before their next match. The team will head to Franklin, Mass. to take on the Dean Bulldogs at 12:00 on September 6th.
